Watched The TV Show "Destination Truth" (93/366)

"Adventure rewrites the routine of our lives and wakes us sharply from the comforts of the familiar. It allows us to see how vast the expanse of our experience. Our ability to grow is no longer linear but becomes unrestricted to any direction we wish to run."
~
Josh Gates, Destination Truth: Memoirs of a Monster Hunter

You may have never heard of this TV show. I hadn't, either. You may be thinking, "A TV show?! That no one knows about? How is that worth a write-up?!" Well it is if it's one of the greatest TV shows on the planet.

"Destination: Truth" is a reality show that features host Josh Gates and his merry band of crazies, who basically travel around the world, to sometimes insanely remote locations, to investigate stories of the supernatural - but we're not talking *just* ghosts or visions here, we're also talking about creatures like "mermaids", "dinosaurs", and all sorts of other scary stuff. The team packs along with them scientific equipment and night vision cameras, and they gather any evidence they can find in the area that the accounts were reported. They question witnesses, talk to local authorities, and show their findings to scientists and specialists from the United States and around the world, and at the end of each episode the team tries to determine from the evidence they've found if there is enough to suggest the existence of the paranormal being, or if the stories that brought the team to the location were more than likely just myth.

In the first episode of the series, the team goes to a ridiculously remote village in Papua New Guinea - almost 500 miles away from civilization (read: plane, then horribly long, bumpy jeep ride, then failed boat attempt, and finally helicopter) to search for evidence of an Iguanodon - the local people claim to have seen one recently, and that they have bones of one as well. Josh & Co. also investigate stories of a nearby fishing town that claims to be home to a mermaid.

This show is awesome! Josh Gates is hilarious, but also a seasoned "adventurer" - in the first episode they show him whacking through the jungle with a machete - how cool is that? The team is great, the high-tech gadgets are totally neat to learn about, and the show is just all around entertaining. If you're at all interested in the supernatural, you need to check this one out!
